Nagaon
district also has the distinction of becoming the first district in Assam to use
information technology effectively in the Judicial system. A computer centre was
set up in 1997 at the office of the District and Sessions Judge, Nagaon, with a
Pentium server, three multilingual GIST terminals and two printers, to
facilitate neat record keeping of legal cases and to provide necessary
transparency of the trials conducted under 13 different courts and tribunal of
Nagaon. The computer centre have been operationalised from July,2000. The centre
is operated by staff of Nagaon
district Judicial establishments and technical consultancy services are provided
by NIC Nagaon District unit. Normal activities of the centre are listed below :
Registration
of Cases:
All the new cases being installed at various courts
under the Office of the
District & Sessions Judge, Nagaon and Office of the Chief Judicial
Magistrate, Nagaon, are registered in computer system including party details,
advocate details, allotted court, IPC section etc. There is a provision for
printing registration/acknowledgement slip meant for the litigants which may be
used as a quick reference to a particular case.
Causelist
preparation:
Daily
preparation of causelist containing listing details of trials scheduled for each
day before various courts - is one of the important activities. Causelists are
given to all the courts prior to beginning of business for the day.
Disposed
cases :
Disposed
cases for all the courts are kept in separate databases for future reference.
Searching
case details :
Powerful
search facilities are available for enquiry of case details pending before the
courts. Litigants and advocates may use these facilities.
Quarterly
Return statement :
Quarterly
return statements for cases disposed and pending before various courts are
prepared. This facility would help the Hon'ble Gauhati High Court to monitor progress of
disposals and speed of trial of cases.
Internet
:
The
centre is equipped with a dial-up internet facility. Besides wide ranging
information available on the Net, the Judicial officers and staff may
browse the Web sites of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and the Hon'ble Gauhati High Court
for details of causelists and case references of these higher institutions.
